Abstract
Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a specific granuloma caused by Leishmania tropica, a parasite transmitted by a Phlebotomus sandfly. This disease is endemic in tropical and subtropical zone, but recently several cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis were developed in Korean constructive workers who had been worked in the Middle East.
The authors roported two cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis who had been worked in Saudi Arabia for about a year. Case 1 was 37 year-old male with several ulcerated lesions and edema cn the left leg and foot. Case 2 was 45 year-old male with multiple ulcerated lesions on the both
upper and lower extremities.
In both cases, cutaneous leishmaniasis was confirmed by the characteristic clinical, histopathological findings, and tissue smear.
About 3 months treatment with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazz)le, metronidazole, and local application of dextran monomer, all of the ulcerated lesions were healed with pigmented scars in both cases.
The authors reviewed the literatures and summarized the Korean reported cases.
